[ Another day, another blast of the trumpets, another game.

Exael is there this time, in her human guise, standing in the center of the arena, and in the center of a giant circular mirror with a clock face painted on, that has been installed in the floor beneath her.

Both of the painted hands are currently pointed towards XII

Exael raises both her arms with a flourish and calls out as people enter: ]

Come one, come all! Take your positions, for soon the curtains will rise on our next act!

[ The door swings open to a study, windows curtained but not heavily, letting some light filter through. A lamp shines on a desk, and bookshelves here are full of many old musty volumes. An jar of ink, pen, and some half-written notes and blank sheets of paper litter the desk, and a cat naps on a plush armchair. On the wall, a calendar has Thursday, August 22nd circled. ]

[ moving over towards the window, to open the curtains more ]

[ you see the garden. it doesn't quite make spacial sense, but it is a nice view. ]

goes to the cat, to poke at it like a professional ]

Boring . . .

[ the cat looks affronted at either being roused from its nap, or being called boring. it glares ]

Don't give me that.

[ to the calendar then, is it just a calendar that's tragic ]

[ it's a calendar with lots of notation. you don't recognize half these holidays. not that you would, being from Cray skybridges, but still. notes are hella weird tho. Like, notes on star influences being at their zenith and what herbs to pick when the moon is full.

Thursday August 22nd remains circled ]

I hate puzzles.

[ flips through the calendar a bit before going to look at what Hush has ]

[heading for the desk, looking for any drawers or other compartments]

If y-you had a key, w-where would you hide it...

[ the desk is messy. but most prominently, atop it you see sketches that look... remarkably like the seals you all have on your hands. They're labeled with the names you recognize as your team names, though there's one of a winged lion labeled cherubim that you don't recognize.

in the desk drawer are an incense burner and a book of matches. ]

[clearing the papers to the floor, with the winged lion on the top -- somewhat perturbed by its presence.

the incense burner and book of matches get placed on the desk once the papers are clear.]

[ they sit on the desk where you placed them. anything else you'd like to do? ]

[trying to light the incense burner]

[ you need something in the incense burner to light it ]

[...figuring that out after wasting...several matches... #amnesialife

abandoning that effort for the moment to check out the books on the shelves]

[ one book is pulled half-way out. an old book. Well, all the other books are old too, so maybe nothing special about that. Flipping through the pages, most of it is half-nonsensical old english, but if you take the time to stop and read you can decipher on one page:

"Thimiamate for Monday is folium mirti, and lawlri, and leaves of good odor of all sweet flowers.

Thimiamate for Tuesday is sanders, the red, black, and white, and all sweet woods as lignum aloes, cypress, balsam, and such like.

Thimiamate for Wednesday is the rinds of all sweete woods, as cinnamon, cassia ligina corticus, lauri, and macis, and all sweet seeds.

Thimiamate for Thursday is all sweet fruits as nutmeg, cloves, the rinds of oranges and citrines, dry and powdered with such like of good odor."

though in the book it's written rather more like "...Thimiamate on the tewsdaye is sanders the redd blake and white, and all swete..." It's probably not worth it to go through more.

it would probably worth ignoring except for the four bags of incense taped to the back. ]

[squinting to read the text, holding the book close to her nose. the dates catch her attention immediately, and she checks the day circled on the calendar.]

Thursday...

[checking the incense bags for labels, hoping to find one labeled "Thursday" or the Old English equivalent.]

[ THERE'S AT LEAST TWO ROMANCE NOVELS

and a book on summoning demons and angelic linguistics. you don't remember william but it looks like shit he'd have on hand ]

[well, let's take all of those; 'angelic linguistics' sounds like something she could trade to someone who cares about it. For now, she is going to curl up in that cat chair with The Love of the Fallen, which looks to be about a girl and a mysterious sexy demon, can they find romance???]

spoilers it's a romance novel they definitely do. or at least lots of steamy love making in the later chapters ]
