[ Another day, another blast of the trumpets, another game.

Exael is there this time, in her human guise, standing in the center of the arena, and in the center of a giant circular mirror with a clock face painted on, that has been installed in the floor beneath her.

Both of the painted hands are currently pointed towards XII

Exael raises both her arms with a flourish and calls out as people enter: ]

Come one, come all! Take your positions, for soon the curtains will rise on our next act!

Well, uh, I m-made a deal with a t-talking cat and ended up with m-more power... M-Me and Double. That's how we g-got our key.

Yeah? What could you do?

It wasn't a n-new power. It was like...the p-powers I already had were s-stronger.

Huh. Woulda come in handy if you got to keep it.

B-But if we'd k-kept it...then we'd have to k-keep everything else, too. Otherwise, it w-wouldn't be fair.

The...the b-bad stuff. I d-didn't get details...

Where d-do you think we went? We saw a s-study, and...it w-was weird...

I dunno. We saw some room with a long table.

The people there knew the city.

W-We saw something from the past...m-maybe not of t-this city exactly, though k-kind of -- it was weird.

And...I s-saw a weird drawing...

How do you know it was from the past?

Well...it was about the p-plague spreading...and we know t-that happened b-before the dome and everything, because of the j-journal, right, so...I k-kind of just assumed...

[He pauses a minute, seeming to think something through.]

What was the drawing of?

A l-lion, with wings...the other sketches were our s-seals, so I thought, was there s-supposed to be a f-fourth team...? It's k-kind of creepy...

Another one, huh?

[He pauses, think again.]

So what as it you saw about the plague?

H...How it spread, maybe... The p-person whose memory we saw d-didn't seem to know for s-sure where the p-plague came from, but their h-hands were all weird, and strange foreigners were one of the p-possible causes... I think...m-maybe that person was the...s-spreader? I don't know if there's a word for that...

B-But it didn't seem c-certain, exactly.

No clue what might've changed them?

[her hands clench involuntarily at her sides]

T...Their hands were...they h-had to be c-covered up...

So you never got a good look, huh?

No, b-but...I w-was that person, in their m-mind...I could f-feel it. My f-fingers were...strange.

[He's quiet for a minute, thinking something through.]

It was weird...
