[ Another day, another blast of the trumpets, another game.

Exael is there this time, in her human guise, standing in the center of the arena, and in the center of a giant circular mirror with a clock face painted on, that has been installed in the floor beneath her.

Both of the painted hands are currently pointed towards XII

Exael raises both her arms with a flourish and calls out as people enter: ]

Come one, come all! Take your positions, for soon the curtains will rise on our next act!

Let's just say I'm glad this one's over.

What happened?

Nothing permanent, looks like.

[ studies his face a minute before answering ]

We don't understand the nature of their powers, so I can't say that for sure. But she arranged it, didn't she? If it was even a real place at all, it's one which she can bend to her will.

Yeah? And what if she just... I dunno. Opened a way through to someplace we couldn't get before.

[The real hand makes a fist at his side.]

Did something happen that would make you think so?

We met some people. Another team.

They seemed to think everything was business as usual.

[ UH. ]

What sort of place were they in?

This room with a long table. The only way out was the way back to the clock, but they knew the city.

[ a pause, probably for overthinking ]

It doesn't add up to me. The place we went to was outside--not within the dome.

So what if you went someplace different?

[ pauses, piecing his answer together ]

If the information we've been given about magic corruption and plague is true, then we're in this dome for a reason. If they were a team like us, placed inside to keep us away from others, then why would there be a door to the outside, only steps away? Could they even leave the room?

Not sure. They said they'd been out recently, but we've only been awake, what? Five days?

They said the the place wasn't empty. If they've been holed up wherever the hell that was, could be they don't know yet. Could be this place got trashed a lot more recently than we've been thinking.

[ ... ]

What were they like?

They seemed alright. Most of em, anyway.

You want to go back to get them.

If there's a way to do it, yeah.

[ another pause... ]

Right now, our only available path would be to rely on the angels to take us there once more.

So I'll ask em.

[But not before searching for potentially hidden ways to get back in. What if there were secret doors in the arena somewhere and we just missed them before. 8|a]

[Yep, coming up empty.]

...damn. Course it couldn't be that easy.

[ waits, tries once more, louder ]

[ waits again... shakes his head ]

We'll just have to wait.

Figures. Soon as we actually want her around, she's MIA.

[ heaves a sigh ]
